Overview
The department of Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) is responsible for running and maintaining the entire University estate, including all our buildings, gardens, and facilities.
We work with all departments to keep the University running effectively, ensuring the University continues to be a remarkable place to work and study for our staff and students.
As a Mobile Cleaning Assistant, you will play an important and valued role in our University community by helping to maintain our buildings and outdoor spaces, ensuring they remain clean and well presented for staff, students and visitors.
Main duties and responsibilities
- In accordance with agreed schedules, cleaning of specified internal and external areas, using the appropriate techniques, materials and specialist equipment.
- With an outdoor focus: clear leaves, sweep walkways, clean external windows and remove graffiti & fly posters.
- Respond to reactive departmental cleaning requests submitted through the Helpdesk or Planon system.
- The transportation of cleaning equipment between sites and the correct and safe use, storage and cleaning of equipment in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
- Report any cleaning equipment faults, damage or maintenance issues to the Cleaning Supervisor.
- The use of cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH Regulations (2002).
- Ensure the safekeeping of keys during working hours.
- Responsibility for the activation and deactivation of building alarms and security of entrances/exits after duties, as appropriate.
- Prioritising your own workload, communicating with, and working around building users, to ensure areas used first are prioritised.
- As a member of staff you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential criteria
- Effective verbal communication skills (interview/application).
- Ability to work both independently and by supporting colleagues as part of a team (interview/application).

- A genuine commitment to providing excellent customer service (interview/application).
- A full UK driving licence with the requirement to drive a transit van (application).
Desirable criteria
- Previous outdoor/external cleaning experience (interview/application).
Further Information
Grade: 2
Salary: £12.30 per hour
Work arrangement: Full Time. Monday to Friday, working 8:00am - 4:00pm, 35 hours per week.
