Overview
As an Assistant Project Engineer in the Digital Factory Hub, you will assist the AMRC Cymru Team in Baglan, South Wales. Working as part of an agile group to deliver research and be the technical support for a digital manufacturing hub facility. Digital Manufacturing is one of the key themes within Digital Factory Hub in our facility in Baglan and the role will look at “the 4th Industrial revolution” and the development and implementation of Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) integrating with Digitally Assisted Assembly and Big Data technologies within manufacturing.
You will be studying towards a software or programming orientated degree, competent in a number of programming languages and keen to continue your development in an applied setting.
We are looking for a diverse skill-set, including good organisational skills, and the ability to research, problem solve, design, and implement ideas in a hands-on environment. In this role, you will be required to have a practical approach, a positive attitude, and be a confident communicator.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Provide assistance in the development and integration of coding, programming and electronics to support Industry 4.0 manufacturing orientated applications.
- Assist in the delivery of projects as part of an agile project delivery system.
- Report project deliverables, both written and verbally to your colleagues in the AMRC Cymru team.
- Ensure all processes comply with the AMRCs quality standards.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other members of staff as appropriate.
- Research novel technology and its application through into industry.
- As a member of staff you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post

Essential criteria
- Willingness to work towards a degree in a relevant subject or discipline.(assessed at: application)
- Knowledge in one of more of the following areas: Coding, programming and / or electronic development. (assessed at: application)
- General programming skills including of one or more of the following: Java, C++, C#, Object C, LabView. (assessed at: application)
