Overview

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will be part of a team at AMRC NW that will provide leadership and guidance to other Assistant Project Managers and Coordinators in the group.

In this role, you will hold a key support role to a significant portfolio of projects within the NW and work across the whole portfolio of projects of varying lengths in duration potentially across a range of groups. You will support and work closely with a team with understanding in the relevant fields of Additive Manufacturing, Digital Technologies, Batteries and Automation Research, Project Management and Development. You will also aid in the development of portfolio and finance processes to improve performance. Policy support and creation are a key aspect of the role within the portfolio and experience of this type of work is crucial.

For this role, you will need to have a high standard of project support experience especially within large portfolios of work spanning multiple groups. Also, you should be able to manage your time effectively. In order to be considered for this role you should have a proven track record in your relevant area of business.

The role will involve periodical travel for on-site meetings, which will largely be domestically in the UK, but could also be international.

The AMRC are a Corporate Partner of the Association of Project Management (APM) https://www.apm.org.uk/  which means we train, support and encourage the Project Management team at the AMRC NW.  This is a supportive environment that is passionate about training and development.

 Main duties and responsibilities

·         Working with the Project Management Team to support them to plan, administer and deliver team projects.

·         Research, collate, organise, and edit material for inclusion in reports and other documents.

·         Interpret and communicate results to Project Manager, Senior Project Manager and some essential Operational areas. At times communication to the customer programme manager is required to support the work of the AMRC.

·         Develop personal skills through external or on the job training, suitable to role.

·         Present own work and teams data results to internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a professional and concise manner.

·         Expected involvement with securing key partnership projects and maintaining close partnerships with AMRC Partner companies.

·         Plan and carry out tasks / responsibilities over the short-medium term, with an awareness of longer-term issues. Use discretion to determine priorities and resolve conflicts to allow the team to meet targets and deadlines.

·         Continuously monitor and check teams against Milestones, Priorities, Finance, on time delivery, resourcing and forward levels of work and Quality process adherence within a large portfolio of work.

·         Assist teams in planning several months in advance to meet deadlines for AMRC project reports, industrial partner deadlines and to support preparation for presentations to internal and external stakeholders, especially in communication of finance status.

Essential criteria

     Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience (assessed at: application)

     Have significant Project Coordinator / project support work experience. (assessed at: application)

     Have client facing / customer service work experience at working team level (assessed at: application)

     IT Skills across Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Project intermediate to advanced standard (assessed at: application)

     Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, report writing skills, experience of supporting presentations (assessed at: application/interview

     Must be extremely organised with a methodical and structured approach to work, and good attention to detail (assessed at: application)

     Ability to manage, organise and lead a support group across multiple teams (assessed at: application/interview)

     Ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer-term implications (assessed at: application/interview)

 

Desirable criteria

     Studied or hold Prince 2 Foundation and Practitioner certification or APM, PFQ and PMQ (assessed at: application)

     Knowledge of the University of Sheffield / AMRC policies, systems, and practices (assessed at: interview)
