Overview

 

The Employability Assistant (Management School) sits within the Management School, in the Faculty of Social Sciences Employability Team which forms part of the Careers and Employability Service. The postholder will play a key supporting role in the University of Sheffield Management School (SUMS) Employability Team, reporting to the School’s Placement Officer and liaising with colleagues in the Faculty Employability Team and across the Careers and Employability Service.

 

The Management School has a dedicated Employability Hub which offers students face to face employability and careers support. This role will primarily be based in the SUMS Employability Hub. Working as part of a small team, the postholder will be responsible for delivering initial advice on CVs, interviews and applications and will play an important part in referring students on to other appropriate services in the School, Faculty and wider Careers and Employability Service.  The post provides administrative and marketing support for a range of School, Faculty and institution wide employability projects. 

 

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and customer service skills, a student- centred approach and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.  

 

Due to the student-facing aspects of this role, hybrid working is only likely to be available outside of term time.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Be a first point of contact for student employability and careers enquiries in the Management School, face to face and via the team inbox.
  • Undertake administration for team events and initiatives, e.g. evaluation, feedback, and data reporting.
  • Support student marketing and communication to drive engagement with employability and careers opportunities.
  • Work with Employability Advisers and colleagues from the SUMS External Engagement team to administer smooth and efficient processes for employability and work-related learning schemes, for example liaising with internal / external stakeholders, creating student facing briefing materials, planning events and evaluation.
  • Provide administrative support for year long placements, in line with University policy and using institutional processes and systems, for example providing administrative support for the placement approval process and attendance monitoring,  advertising placement opportunities and providing initial guidance to students.
  • Support the organisation of employability events and sessions, e.g.through planning logistics, communications and liaison with external organisations and other University teams.
  • Collaborating with the wider team, create and deliver effective student comms and marketing to encourage student engagement with employability activities, e.g. regular bulletins, updates to social media channels, maintaining web pages and digital screens.
  • As part of the employability team, explore and implement ways to increase student engagement with employability support and placement years. e.g. Lecture ‘shout outs’ working with student societies, supporting events for students, and seeking ways to gather the student voice. 
  • Contribute to SUMS, faculty and institutional employability projects such as internship schemes, events, and wider marketing campaigns.
  • In collaboration with the wider SUMS team, produce narratives for students and other stakeholders from the graduate destinations data to support recruitment and programme accreditation processes.
