Overview
As a Lecturer in Economics you will join our dynamic and collegiate School to undertake teaching and research in the School and to contribute to economics as well as interdisciplinary degree programmes. We are particularly keen to attract applications from academics who work in the area of macroeconomics. You will be qualified to PhD level and have teaching experience. In this role you will make a key contribution to the School’s research-led teaching curriculum at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will have a growing or established research profile and demonstrate the ability to design a programme of research that will produce high quality outputs and have real impact in academia and beyond.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Contribute fully to the School of Economics as a teacher, researcher and leader.
- Demonstrate high-quality teaching practice through the effective design, delivery, assessment and evaluation of research-led teaching programmes.
- Undertake academic tutor responsibilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Contribute to the design and development of programmes of study that are accessible, inclusive and contribute to the University’s Education Strategy.
- Demonstrate continuing professional development in teaching by developing and implementing ideas for improving own teaching design, delivery and assessment.
- Conduct a programme of high-quality personal research including identifying and securing varied sources of funding.
- Disseminate research findings through, for example high-quality publications and conference presentations. Ensure that at least one item in a rolling three-year period is judged through peer review as being internationally excellent or better in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
- Ensure research impact through activities that demonstrate an effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment, or quality of life beyond academia.
- Attract high-quality research students and provide them with effective supervision.
- Actively contribute to the collective vision, mission and values of the School and University through individual action and inclusive, collaborative working.
- Contribute to the life of the School of Economics, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the wider University.
- Be actively involved in professional activities such as refereeing papers, editing journals, refereeing research grants, external examining, organising conferences, committee membership and involvement with professional bodies.
- You will make a full and active contribution to the principles of the ‘Sheffield Academic’. These include the achievement of excellence in applied teaching and research, and scholarly pursuits to make a genuine difference in the subject area and to the University’s achievements as a whole. Essential criteria
- A PhD in a relevant subject area, or have equivalent experience (assessed at: application);
- Ability to design and deliver high-quality, research led, teaching programmes to ensure effective learning (assessed at: application/interview).
- An understanding of and demonstrable commitment to promoting and embedding equality, diversity and inclusion principles and practices and demonstration of capacity to meet the educational needs of a diversity of learners (assessed at: application/interview)

- An excellent researcher with a growing high-quality research profile as evidenced through internationally excellent research outputs including peer-reviewed journal articles, conference presentations, etc (assessed at: application/presentation/interview).
- Ability to deliver research impact through activities that demonstrate an effect beyond academia, for example via public engagement activities, consultancy etc (assessed at: application/interview).
- Strong commitment to, and potential for, generating research income from a variety of sources, in line with disciplinary norms (assessed at: application/interview).
- Experience of working both collaboratively and independently with a high degree of personal effectiveness (assessed at: application/interview).
- An ability to lead teaching and research activities, and to collaborate effectively with others.

Grade: Grade 8
Salary: £48,149 - £57,422 per annum pro-rata. Potential to progress to £64,605 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.
