As a Lead Manufacturing Research Engineer at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), you will become the lead of an inclusive and diverse team at AMRC Cymru facility in Baglan, Neath Port Talbot, Wales. You will work alongside talented colleagues across the AMRC and lead a team with a broad range of expertise, contributing and leading on a dynamic portfolio of projects that span all areas of the manufacturing sector. These projects, varying in both scale and complexity, focus on creating innovative solutions for in-house research, our industrial partners, and the wider UK manufacturing supply chain. From conceptual design through to the development of physical and digital demonstrators, your work will offer outstanding opportunities for continuous learning, personal growth, and professional development.

 

In this role, you will lead the AMRC activities in Baglan and get actively involved in project scoping, set-up, and delivery, applying manufacturing knowledge across the AMRC Cymru’s core specialisms. Your responsibilities will include engaging with recent advances in research, leading project work with manufacturers, providing expert advice on technical challenges, and communicating progress to both internal and external stakeholders. Above all, you will play a key part in ensuring the success of the Balgan site through ensuring projects are delivered to the highest technical standards, upholding the AMRC’s international reputation for excellence.

 

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Leading the technical delivery for numerous concurrent projects, for a range of partners and funding bodies and internal stakeholders such as the AMRC leadership team.
  • Lead the development of demonstrators and prototypes, both physical and digital, showcasing novel manufacturing solutions to partners and visitors.
  • Lead the development and implement digital simulation models to represent manufacturing processes, workflows, and systems, products, ensuring accuracy and relevance to real-world operations.
  • Lead the analysis of simulation outputs and present findings through clear visualisations, technical reports, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in relevant technologies, methodologies, and best practices, applying new knowledge to advance the centre’s research and industrial engagements.
  • Lead the delivery of research projects.
  • Reporting project deliverables, both written and verbal.
  • Lead knowledge transfer and outreach activities, including workshops, training sessions, and public engagement, to disseminate research outcomes and promote the centre’s capabilities.
  • Regularly meet with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of research outputs into broader projects and industrial applications.
  • Manage the Baglans team’s workload, timescales and resources to fit project timescales.
  • Organise project meetings with external/project partners and suppliers.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post
