Overview

 

This role is based in Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre North West, Samlesbury, Blackburn and provides the chance to work with some of the biggest names in Aerospace, Automotive, Construction, and SMEs across the North-West region.

As a Project Engineer at the AMRC, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills to solve real-world manufacturing problems. You will work within a team of engineers and developers from multiple disciplines to develop novel solutions for the high-value manufacturing sector. You will be expected to deliver tasks with support from senior colleagues, work to set timescales and operate within a diverse team and contribute to the successful completion of projects.

You will be expected to develop skills in advanced manufacturing mainly on Additive Manufacturing and an awareness of other key technical areas, such as machining, inspection and material characterisation. You will use these skills to help AMRC NW deliver tangible impact to the UK manufacturing sector, and to use its unique position sitting between academia and industry to contribute to the wider research community.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Delivery of project tasks related to Additive Manufacturing, with assistance from senior colleagues.
  • Assist with project delivery outside of your core area of expertise when required.
  • Work to deadlines and develop an ability to manage own time and resources.
  • Communicate own work to peers, both as written and verbal outputs.
  • Partake in stakeholder engagement sessions, both industrial and academic.
  • Develop solutions to complex manufacturing and other highly technical problems.
  • Working with senior colleagues to plan workload and resources to fit project timescales.
  • Research into novel technology to advance knowledge, evaluate new techniques, and to solve specific problems in industry.
  • Adhere to the AMRC’s quality management system and health and safety system. This will include booking in goods received, using all up-to-date documentation and procedures for project pricing, reporting, completion and follow up procedure.
  • Write reports required for the customer and further publication where applicable. This will involve detailed technical review and timely submission to meet project standards and deadlines.
  • Report project deliverables, both written and verbally communicating reports and presentations on time in full to internal staff and industrial partners.
  • Establish principles and techniques to improve the quality, durability, and performance of the additive manufacturing process.
  • Provide temporary assistance to other projects when required.
  • Research into problem areas of Additive Manufacturing to advance basic knowledge, evaluate new theories and techniques and to tackle specific problems
  • As a member of staff, you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible
