Overview
Reporting to the Senior Creative Media Technician in The School of Information, Journalism and Communication you will provide advice and support to students and staff on the use of a wide range of portable recording equipment. You will be confident in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud Applications including Adobe Premiere & Photoshop. You will be familiar with camera and audio equipment and be responsible for ensuring portable equipment is maintained and in good working order before being used by staff and students.
You will manage the Media Store, ensuring that the booking system works smoothly issuing equipment to students and overseeing its return. You will contribute to the creation of user support documentation and provide support in the delivery of training for both staff and students. You will support the Senior Creative Media Technician with radio and TV Studio productions and assist in maintaining the equipment in these spaces You will keep abreast of developments and contribute to the development of the service in line with technical developments.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Provide specialist front-line support to staff and students using the Media Store resources and facilities, providing a positive student experience.
- Provide support in the delivery of workshops and other training sessions in the use of media production understanding the different approaches and techniques required to demonstrate equipment to different audiences.
- Maintain equipment in the Media Store and oversee the equipment booking system, ensuring the equipment we have is in good working order.
- Manage the Media Store ensuring processes needed to loan equipment to students make the best use of equipment available and students are aware of how to handle and store equipment whilst in their possession.
- Provide pre-agreed demonstrations to groups of students in the use of equipment allocated by the Media Store.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on media production projects and tasks including live events and workshops.
- Working with the Health and Safety Officer, ensure the storage and maintenance of Media Store equipment meets University Health and Safety Regulations.
- Develop and produce documentation and user guides to support staff and students using specialist equipment.
- Contribute to the implementation of relevant new technologies and services.
- Support the Senior Creative Media Technician during news productions in the TV Studio, Radio Studio & Media Booths and assist in the maintenance and operation of the media production spaces.
- Working with Creative Media Technicians, using specialist knowledge to contribute to the planning and development of technical resources in the school.
- Contribute to updating our library of online multimedia learning resources to support learning and teaching for all aspects of specialist technologies used in the school.
- Maintain electrical equipment inventory.
- Liaise with Estates & Facilities Management with regard to regular portable appliance testing (PAT) and undertake visual inspection of all new electrical equipment on delivery.
