Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to help to drive a step change in the way in which data is used to help realise the ambitions and priorities within the University’s vision and strategy for Education. You will be an experienced manager with a track record of delivering high quality, information based, services and have experience of working in higher education. Critically you are passionate about using data to lead change and possess the interpersonal skills to engage and support others in that mission.
As the Performance & Data Manager you will manage the data and reporting
requirements of the service, using internal and external data sets (e.g. curriculum data, the data that underpins regulatory compliance by the Office for Students and programme and module surveys) to help develop services that target the support we provide to academic Schools and to enhance the way in which we help academic teams with the design, development, management and review of academic programmes.
Main duties and responsibilities
- To lead the Performance and Data team in the collection, transformation, management and use of curriculum and related performance data used and managed by Student & Academic Affairs. For example, student programme and module outcome data, HESA Student data, and module and programme survey data.
- Work effectively with the Strategic Planning and Change team to develop a mutual working relationship and to ensure that services offered by both areas are complementary and do not duplicate activities or responsibilities.
- Ensure that faculties, Schools, professional services and internal bodies with responsibility for education have the information they need to make informed and targeted management decisions regarding the development and delivery of academic programmes.
- Contextualise and interpret data related to academic programmes, their delivery and performance to provide insights and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Proactively partner with Schools and senior academic leads to optimise performance in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and other external benchmarks.
- Work with the Academic Programmes and Quality Team to integrate data into Annual Reflection and the broader Quality Management framework.
- Manage the Surveys and Data Insight Analysts to inform initiatives related to areas of work within their remit, such as the National Student Survey and institutional programme and module surveys, and to help target areas and opportunities for focus.
- Line manage the team to ensure equitable workload distribution and performance against service targets. You will monitor activities to ensure they remain high-quality and align with the University’s strategic priorities.
- Undertake other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.
- As a member of our Professional staff you will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the professional behaviours set out in the Sheffield Professional Framework. Please follow this link for further information: Sheffield Professional Framework.
