Overview
At Centre for Care we are recruiting a Research Associate to support research and impact activity within the ‘Digital Care and Innovation’ theme. We welcome applications from those with knowledge of coproduction and qualitative methods, and a sound understanding of key issues relating to care – including the impact of minoritisation and intersectional inequities. Understanding of survey methods and evidence synthesis is desirable. The postholder will work primarily on the following two projects:
The Centre for Care is a research centre funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) with support from National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). It is administered by University of Sheffield and led with investigators in five universities, three major charities and the Office for National Statistics, in close partnership with a large network of partners. The Centre’s overarching objective is to provide new evidence to guide decision-making and practice in care, asking: How does care reinforce or redress inequalities? How does it play out in time and space for individuals or families living complicated, unpredictable lives? What could be done differently, for whose benefit, and how? It seeks to co-produce research with people who have experience of seeking or (ref)using care, unpaid carers, care workers and other care stakeholders. |
Main duties and responsibilities
- Be an active member of the ESRC Centre for Care team, attending and contributing to Centre activities and to Digital Care and Innovation team meetings. Collaborate effectively with colleagues, including those in partner universities and with social care, voluntary sector and industrial partners.
- Supporting a systematic review of the academic and grey literature on social care and digital technologies.
- Supporting the collection and analysis of qualitative data. This will involve coordinating interviews and focus groups, helping to recruit participants and ensure informed consent.
- Supporting the collection and analysis of (qualitative/mixed) survey data. This will involve disseminating a survey, and reviewing and sorting survey responses.
- Participation in collaborative analyses, using relevant analysis software (e.g. Nvivo, Qualtrics).
- Co-authoring of critical academic and/or policy outputs relating to digital care and ‘innovation’.
- Liaising closely, regularly, and in a timely manner with the research team, and relevant professional services staff throughout the project.
- Undertaking mandatory online training required for members of the Centre for Care and specialist forms of training as and when the project requires.
- Upholding the highest standards of ethics and research integrity.
- Comply with all Centre for Care reporting arrangements and contribute as required to data validation, auditing and quality requirements. Assist Co-Investigators to safeguard and preserve research data in agreed formats, working within the Centre for Care data management protocols.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
