Overview

 

Contributing to the Estates & Facilities Management strategy, as Transport Operations Supervisor, you will plan and coordinate the day-to-day running of front-line operations across the Transport Service. Your primary role will be to lead and support other colleagues in the Transport service to provide a comprehensive fleet management and transport solution across the University of Sheffield.

 

 You will also be required to undertake various people management duties, including resource allocation, performance management and the development of colleagues.

 

Working with a range of colleagues, students & suppliers, you will be specifically responsible for the efficient and compliant facilitation of vehicle hire & fleet management services, using well established processes & digital systems.

 

To meet the customer & legislative requirements of the service, you will be expected to demonstrate sound leadership of a flexible, committed team, making informed, knowledge based decisions and taking the initiative in response to unforeseen challenges. You will need to show resilience and be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

 

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Deal with day to day transport operations such as coordinating vehicle hires and fleet  maintenance, testing and servicing.
  • Communicate with wider colleagues, students and contractors regarding vehicle hire  and fleet maintenance issues.
  • Provide accurate management information to a range of colleagues to enable performance reporting, financial recharging, accident reporting, fleet replacement and disposal options.
  • Provide day to day supervision of other team members, taking first line action in resource allocation, performance management, absence control and team development issues.
  • Assist in the planning and forecasting of the transport budget requirements and fleet lifecycle strategy and help identify and implement service improvements.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Transportation and Travel strategy.
  • Assist in the development of the fleet to support a sustainable transport solution for the University.
  • Occasionally deputise for the Campus Transport and Logistics Manager.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post including discrete project work relating to the development of the service.
