The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) is seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Thermal Processing Engineer to join our world-class AMRC Casting Group. The AMRC Castings Group is a leader in advancing casting technologies and techniques. Our team provides advanced casting expertise, including computer process modelling, design for casting manufacture, and rapid low-volume manufacture of precision castings. We work collaboratively to meet industry needs, increase performance, reduce costs, and eliminating material waste. Main duties and responsibilities
As a Thermal Processing Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting our advanced manufacturing processes. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pyrometry requirements across the business feeding into research activities across the whole process
- Creation of documentation for thermal processing of parts (Heat treatment & Hot Isostatic Pressing)
- Ensuring that equipment calibrations are conducted for all onsite furnaces covering the pressure sensing & pyrometry requirements
- Furnace upkeep in line with relevant standards AMS2750 & AMS2769 etc
- Conducting TUS, SAT, Leak rates ect.
- Processing parts in a wide variety of equipment within the facility
- Post cycle quality check to ensure compliance to the relevant specifications
- Generation of certificates of conformance
- Supporting testing activities across the business
- Maintaining Health and Safety standards and ensuring others adhere to relevant systems and processes
- General machine maintenance and upkeep of heat treatment areas
- Working methodically to meet customer deadlines
- Planning working sequences for short-term projects
- Coordinating your own work routines and project activities
- Contributing to project planning and team efforts
- Supporting the AMRC’s working approach and promoting the group and its goals
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post

Essential criteria:
- Experience in reading & interpreting thermal processing standards (assessed at: application)
- Experience in the operation of different types of thermal process equipment (assessed at: application)
- Air heat treatment with different cooling media
- Vacuum heat treatment with different cooling media
- Set-up and execution of temperature monitoring equipment and data gathering, analysis and presenting (assessed at: application)
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal (assessed at: interview)
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment (assessed at: application)
- Ability to work under your own initiative (assessed at: application)

Further Information
Grade: 6
Salary: £31,637 to £36,130 per annum. Potential to progress to £39,355 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.
