Overview

 

Contributing to the Estates & Facilities Management (EFM) strategy, as Transportation & Logistics Support Driver you will contribute to the day to day support of front-line operations across the Transport & Logistics service.

 

Your primary role will be to provide a comprehensive driving and logistics support function across the service.

 

You will be responsible for the movement of equipment, furniture and a range of items including mail and deliveries, collection and removal of waste, and various items for recycling.

 

You will be required to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders from EFM and the wider University; including students, staff & visitors, in addition to external suppliers and stakeholders.

 

In order to meet customer requirements and job schedules, you will be expected to work as part of a flexible, committed team, and at times, on your own initiative. You will need to be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment, with changing priorities based on business needs, along with commitment to accurately finishing tasks to required deadlines.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Daily driving of light commercial vehicles and associated vehicle checks and vehicle cleaning.
  • Assist with office moves, waste removal and recycling around the University estate.
  • Support for event set up, e.g. exams, open days and exhibitions.
  • Provide driving support for a range of vehicles within the University fleet.
  • Help with warehouse duties such as stock movements and goods receiving.
  • As a member of staff you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential criteria

 

  • Demonstrable experience of driving within a light commercial fleet/transport/logistics operations sector (assessed at application/interview).
  • Full driving license for classes: B, BE, C1, C1E, D1, D1E - Minimum Requirement  (assessed at application/interview).
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment with the ability to demonstrate good customer service skills, dealing with queries in a proactive, courteous and professional manner (assessed at application/interview).
  • IT skills applicable to those within a logistics type environment (assessed at application/interview).
  • A good understanding of legislation relating to recycling and waste disposal (assessed at application/interview).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, maintaining excellent working relationships with colleagues, staff, students and stakeholders (assessed at application/interview).
  • A good understanding of Health and Safety legislation, with the ability to relate this knowledge into all operational aspects of the role (assessed at application/interview).
  • Previous experience and training in safe manual handling techniques, including safe loading/unloading of vehicles (assessed at application/interview).

 

Desirable criteria

 

  • Previous experience of operating in the logistics / warehousing sector with forklift operator's licence (assessed at application/interview).
  • Experience of operating specialist vehicles, e.g. road sweeper, MEWPs or agricultural vehicles.

 

Further Information

Grade: 3

Salary: £26,760 - £27,823 per annum (with the potential to progress to £29,085 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution).

Work arrangement: Full-time, 40 hours per week. There is 1 x permanent position and 1 x fixed term position for 24 months available.
